Vascular diseases are conditions that affect the blood vessels – the arteries and veins that carry blood throughout the body. Vascular diseases that affect the arteries are known as arterial disease; vascular disorders that affect the veins are known as venous diseases. Examples of common vascular disorders include aneurysms, phlebitis and varicose veins. Peripheral vascular disease can also cause acute and chronic wounds in the extremities that require extensive treatment.
